Danny Cowley has described City’s draw as “very tough” following Tuesday’s EFL Trophy Round One Group Stage draw.
The Imps have been drawn in Group H alongside Rotherham United and Doncaster Rovers, with an ‘Invited’ side to complete the group on Friday.
Following 2018’s EFL Trophy triumph, the Imps made it to the first knockout round last time out, and the Imps boss believes it is a difficult Round One draw in his third season in the competition.
“It’s a very tough draw in two League One sides,” he said. “It’s an exciting and good draw for our supporters, and it’s a competition we’ve enjoyed over the last two years.”
The Imps travel to face the Millers and Rovers during the opening month of the season, as well as pencilling in dates for the EFL Trophy.
“I suppose we’ll be seeing a lot of Rotherham and Doncaster in the next few months,” Danny added.
The Imps’ boss explained that squad depth may effect how strong his sides will be in the competition.
“Our focus has been slightly different from season to season,” Danny said.
“Depending on where we are with recruitment by the end of the transfer window, will ultimately define how we approach that competition.
“We’re football people, we’re competitors and we love winning, so we’ll have a real go at the competition this year, but it will obviously depend on the size of the squad that we are able to put together as to how aggressive we can be in those games.”
Details of the full draw will be made following Friday’s final draw, which will be made live on TalkSPORT at 12:30pm.
