Fuel for School is a programme that was developed as a collaboration between the Real Junk Food Project and a Leeds primary school in 2015. The head teacher, Nathan Atkinson was concerned about the impact hunger was having on pupils in his school. He was aware of the work the real junk food were doing within the city and their Pay as you Feel café so set up his own café within his school. The first of its kind in a primary school.
Since 2015, Nathan has developed the Fuel for School programme which now operates in multiple cities around the UK and aims to empower the next generation to REALLY feed the world.
Bishop King Primary School, Manor Leas Junior Academy, St Peter at Gowts Primary School and Nettleham Infant School have been working alongside Lincoln City Foundation with this project since September 2018.
Our schools have been collectively fighting against global food waste and taking direct environmental action to make a positive change our environment and their communities. The education programme helps our schools to use this exciting campaign to create active learning and life changing opportunities for your pupils working towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
His Church, a Lincolnshire based charity working with local and national food manufacturers and retailers have been supplying our surplus food deliveries to each school since September. His Church has enabled our schools to collectively save over 7000kg of food that would have ended up in land fill which equates to 16,500 meals. This amount of food waste would have released 13,300 CO2-e (kg) in greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere.
The event is free flowing so you are able to come along anytime and collect information you want and see examples of the food we save from landfill.
If you wish to join our fight and offer your support to the project you are very welcome to attend.
