The Imps’ visit to face Bury in SkyBet League Two later this month is to be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
The club were contacted over the course of last weekend with the option for the SkyBet League Two fixture against Bury at Gigg Lane on Saturday 26th January being moved from a 3.00pm kick off to 5.30pm to enable the fixture to be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
Because the selection of the fixture is within the 5 weeks’ notice period given to clubs by the EFL and Sky Sports, any decision made regarding the change is required to have the agreement of both Football clubs. Following conversations between officials of Lincoln City and Bury it has been agreed that the kick off will be moved to accommodate the live broadcast.
In coming to this decision Lincoln City officials considered all aspects of moving the kick off time to allow the fixture to be televised, and whilst we will receive a broadcast fee this is not a key factor in coming to the decision that has been made.
Our primary motivation is the ability to fly the flag for SkyBet League Two and of course showcase Lincoln City Football Club to a Sky Sports audience as well as benefitting from the additional national exposure gained from a prime-time slot on a Saturday evening. This will be the first Skybet League Two fixture that has been shown live on Sky Sports this season and the first regular league EFL game featuring The Imps in over a decade.
Whilst tickets are not yet on sale for the trip to Gigg Lane, we are aware that some supporters may have already made a financial outlay relating to travel around the originally scheduled kick-off time. In respect of this and the short notice given regarding the fixture change, the club have made the decision to reimburse supporters for any non-refundable travel costs that they may have already been incurred.
Our away support has been incredible all season and as recognition the football club are subsidising coach travel by 50% for supporters to travel to the game against the Shakers, meaning the coach travel cost just £9 per person.
