181126 Kevin Austin

Tributes have poured in from fans, former team mates and opposing clubs in honour of one of our heroes in recent times, Kevin Austin.

Austin arrived at Sincil Bank in the summer of 1996, under the management of John Beck, following bucket collections from supporters providing Beck the finances to get his man from Leyton Orient.

Showing his talent and worth in defence, he racked up 48 appearances in his first season with the Imps, including a pivotal role in the League Cup run which saw us win 4-1 and 1-0 against Manchester City, before bravely bowing out against Premier League Southampton, despite drawing 2-2 at the Dell.

The following season proved to be a memorable one for Kevin and the Imps, with final-day promotion to England's third tier, as Austin was voted Player of the Season.

Austin's only goal at Sincil Bank came the following season in a 2-1 victory over Manchester City, before joining Barnsley ahead of the 1999/00 season.

The left-sided defender went on to make International appearances for Trinidad & Tobago, as well as making over 100 appearances for Swansea City.

Kevin had been battling with pancreatic cancer recently, and lost his fight over the weekend.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Kevin's family, friends and former team mates.
