Imps’ striker, John Akinde, is looking forward to the Emirates FA Cup second round after City were drawn against Carlisle United after defeating Northampton Town at Sincil Bank on Saturday.

Akinde played a vital part in the win over the Cobblers, setting up Tom Pett for the second of the three goals scored by The Imps on Saturday and said that the game proved that the magic of the FA Cup is well and truly alive.

“Last weekend was great for the neutral, there were lots of goals and of course a last-minute winner.”

Akinde is looking forward to locking horns with The Cumbrians at Sincil Bank for the second time this season, with the incentive for both teams being a potential meeting with a top tier club in round three. However, the 29-year-old says that to make it into the hat they have to look to eradicate the mistakes which allowed the visitors to draw level and almost force a replay before Bruno Andrade smashed home a spectacular stoppage time winner.

“There are things as a team that we know we need to do better, we could have defended better as a team against Northampton, but it was of course a great feeling to get into the next round and we look forward to Carlisle coming to Sincil Bank in a few weeks.

“It’s a good draw, it’s another home draw which is always a good thing, to be able to play another cup game in front of our fans at Sincil Bank.  Of course, there’s a huge incentive for both sides to get into round three, everyone wants to test themselves against the best and there’s an opportunity to do that. So, we’ll be doing all we can to make sure it’s us that progress into the third round.”

Ticket details for the second round clash against Carlisle United will be announced in due course here on redimps.co.uk and across the official Lincoln City Football Club Social Media channels in due course.
