We are delighted to announce the signing of former Boreham Wood goalkeeper, Grant Smith on a two-year deal.
Smith has been an ever-present in the Boreham Wood goal over the last two seasons since his arrival from Bognor Regis.
He has started over 100 consecutive games for The Wood, which included every game in the 2016/17 and 17/18 season where Luke Garrad's side reached the National League Play-Off Final.
Smith had been invited on a three-day training camp with England C in October last season, and earned his first call-up shortly after.
The 24-year-old becomes City's fourth summer signing, following the arrivals of Bruno Andrade, Harry Toffolo and Michael O'Connor.
Danny Cowley said: "He has a fantastic attitude and has a real desire to improve and get better and he’s going to make it a really good fight for the number one spot.
"That’s what we want, we want competition in all places, that competition is so important.
"What Grant has done has taken a monumental effort, and you often find that when people get an opportunity like this they really value it and I’ve got no doubt he’ll make the most of it."
Smith had previously spent time Fulham as a teenager, before joining Brighton & Hove Albion as a scholar, and progressing within their under-21 side.
He joined Hayes & Yeading following his departure from the Seagulls in 2015, and made an instant impact in the National League South where he kept seven clean sheets in 21 games.
Smith joined Premier League side Crystal Palace on trial, but joined Bognor Regis for the beginning of the 2015/16 season. He helped his side finish 2nd in the Ryman Premier League, as well as reaching the Semi-Final of the FA Trophy.
The goalkeeper's efforts were rewarded as he earned a move to the National League with Boreham Wood at the start of the following campaign where he made 92 league appearances over the last two seasons.
Smith arrives in time for pre-season which will begin later this week.
