Danny Cowley has described Lincoln City’s comeback win against Bury as fantastic whilst also paying credit to the Imps’ fans and players for their efforts last night.
City now have 10 points from their opening four fixtures and find themselves second in the league.
Cowley knew his side were in for a tough game after watching Bury lose on penalties to Championship opponents, Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup last week.
He explained his views on last night’s opponents saying: “It was a fantastic win against Bury who were very good with League One quality players.
"We watched them in their previous away game against Nottingham Forest where they did very well only to concede a 90th minute goal and lose on penalties.
“We knew we were in for a tough game and we didn’t get it right in the first half, we had some chances and conceded a really poor goal which is unlike us. We had five or six opportunities to clear the initial phase, which we are really disappointed about.”
The Imps boss, who changed his tactics at half-time by bringing on Harry Anderson for youngster Ellis Chapman, praised Lincoln supporters for staying with the side throughout the 90 minutes.
“I give credit to the supporters because they really stayed with us as well as credit to the players for their response in the second half," he said.
"I thought the players showed a lot of bravery and they managed to get the width in the game we wanted.
“We found an energy to our game and we moved the ball quicker. We switched the angle of attack, we managed to get into wider areas and get more opportunities into the box.
"It was a really important win. There is no easy game and this was a very good result.”
Lincoln face Notts County on Saturday who haven’t won any of their opening fixtures and currently sit bottom of the SkyBet League Two table.
Cowley explained how tough the league can be whilst also discussing his side’s next opponents saying: “Notts County, with the money they have spent and being the one of the favourites to win this league, are where they are at the moment and I think it shows how tough it can be in this league. They won’t stay there and they are much better than how their start has suggested.
“We are sitting on 10 points but we have a lot of work to do, we will keep trying to accumulate points as we try and improve.”
