Lincoln-born Adam Crookes has signed for the Imps on a season-long loan deal from Nottingham Forest.
The 20-year-old left-sided defender, who can also operate in midfield, has been on trial at Sincil Bank throughout pre-season, having first starred in the opening friendly against Norwich City.
Having impressed off the bench that night, Crookes then started the following friendly against Sheffield Wednesday and continued to train with the Imps throughout pre-season.
Crookes started in the heart of the City defence against a strong Derby County Under-23 front line, and kept a clean sheet as the Imps won 2-0.
"He can play left-centre half, holding midfield, he's got a real versatility and there's no doubt he's going to make the very best of his ability," Danny Cowley said.
"Of all the boys, the young player are the ones who have A-Star attitude and you always want them in and around the building."
Crookes, who went to the Priory City of Lincoln Academy, signed for Nottingham Forest as an eight-year-old having played for local sides St. Helen's and Navenby.
He progressed through the ranks at the City Ground and captained the Youth Team regularly, before making the step up to the under-23 side in the 2016/17 season.
Adam spent several months on loan at Guiseley last season, before finishing the campaign with Forest.
Crookes will wear the number 20 shirt at Sincil Bank, and will be available for Saturday's opener at Northampton Town.
