This weekend it’s the turn of Cambridge United to come to Sincil Bank, so we look at what’s been happening in and around the Cambs Glass Abbey Stadium as well as some of the stats over the course of history between the two sides.
On the Field….
Over the past few weeks it’s been a tough time for Shaun Derry and his U’s side as they’ve struggled somewhat results wise in their last two League Two fixtures, however in September they won four of their seven games so they are more than capable of picking up points.
In the past two games The U’s according to reports have dominated proceedings against Swindon Town and Wycombe Wanderers but couldn’t get the decisive opening goal, which has ultimately cost them, come the full time whistle.
Cambridge will be without the services of their captain, Leon Legge, after he was sent off in their last game against Wycombe Wanderers so he serves a one game suspension. The only other definite absentee for the visitors this weekend will be Ade Azeez who is still out through injury.
Defender, George Taft is expected to play at Sincil Bank after impressing his manager in recent weeks.
Opposition View....
The U’s manager Shaun Derry spoke to the club’s official website about this weekend’s trip to Sincil Bank for his team, and he was looking forward to a tough test against a Lincoln City team who could well contend for a place in the top seven come the end of the season.
“Danny and his brother has done fantastically well managing the football club, there has been a lot of media attention, quite rightly, brought to Lincoln City. We know they are a tough team,” Derry said.
‘They have done well for a number of months and I feel that this weekend it’s about us. I look at Mansfield Town, Swindon and Wycombe last weekend and they have a similar style (to Lincoln) so our players should know what to expect.
“We’ve spoken long and hard about the frailties and recent results and we’re hurting about that. We want to put it right. All the fans travelling up to Lincoln from Cambridge are going to have to take a voice.”
Some Stats V The U’s….
There have been 48 previous matches between the two sides over the course of history, with the Imps having the nod in the head to head record. However, it’s a small margin which we look to extend this weekend, the record reads….
Imps wins – 13
U’s wins – 12
Draws – 12
Since the turn of the Millennium, in the six games played between the sides here in Lincoln, the Imps have won two, three games saw the points being shared and there was has been just one victory for the visitors.
The last time the two teams met at Sincil Bank, the Imps took the spoils as the result came courtesy of a solitary goal from Ben Tomlinson. The striker netted a first half penalty and it was no more than the home side deserved before there was extra disappointment for the visiting side as Ryan Donaldson was dismissed with ten minutes to go after picking up a second yellow card.
