The Manchester United Academy was established in 1998 but has roots stretching all the way back to the 1930s with the establishment of the Manchester United Junior Athletic Club (MUJAC). It has been responsible for producing some of Manchester United's greatest ever players, including the club's top five all-time appearance makers; Ryan Giggs, Bobby Charlton, Bill Foulkes, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville, and the more recent wave of home-grown talents known as Fergie's Fledglings. The current academy is based at the club's Aon Training Complex; an 85-acre site in the Manchester suburb of Carrington.
United's Youth Team squad for the 2017/18 campaign has been swelled by the addition of 10 youngsters into the group. Defender Di'Shon Bernard was formerly with Chelsea, while midfielder Ethan Galbraith has arrived from Linfield in Northern Ireland.
Two Manchester-born prospects have been recruited - D'Mani Bughail-Mellor and Brandon Williams - while fellow Englishmen James Garner, Ethan Laird, Dion McGhee and James Thompson also move up to Kieran McKenna's squad. Dylan Levitt is an Under 17 international for Wales and goalkeeper Jacob Carney has been taken on as an Academy student.
With more additions still to be confirmed, the players have headed out to Austria for a pre-season training camp.
