Imps defender Neal Eardley is looking forward to a busy Christmas period of SkyBet League Two action in front of the Imps' supporters who he says are 'absolutely unbelievable'.
Eardley has been a mainstay in the Imps' line up since his arrival in the summer, and he has been overwhelmed with the support he and the team have received which has gone a long way to helping City into the top six. However, he admits there's a long way to go but with the continued togetherness from everyone at the club Sincil Bank could become a fortress starting against Accrington Stanley this weekend.
“The fans have been absolutely unbelievable, that might sound a little cliché as it’s about our own fans." Eardley said.
"I was surprised when I first joined, I didn’t realise the backing we have, not just at home but away as well with the numbers that travel, the players and I’m sure the staff say the same, we really appreciate that. It takes a lot of time and effort, more so at this time of the year, and we will always try to repay them with the performances on the field.
“The Christmas period is an opportunity to pick up points, but we’ve got to forget about them as a whole and concentrate on the games one at a time. In terms of league position, we look at this period and we’ve internally set ourselves a target and I strongly believe when with the backing of the supporters it’s going to be difficult for anyone to come here and get a result.
“It’s a tight stadium here which I like, it’s better than having a bigger stadium that’s only half full. Our fans make that much noise it’s almost like there’s twice as many of them here.
“We want to make Sincil Bank a fortress, we’ve not lost many games here but it’s important we stick together and do our upmost to continue to pick up points, then away from home if we can pick up a few wins too it’s a good opportunity to really look at things. Then we can say we have a right good chance of being in the thick of it, be it the top three or the top seven. Our performances so far this season have given us the opportunity, we’ve put ourselves in there, so it’s our job to continue that.”
