U18 head coach Ash Foyle was pleased with his team’s performance on Wednesday night as his young Imps side came from behind to win at Lincoln United.
He reiterated that it was important for his U18 side to get experience playing against senior men’s teams and it provided them with a stern test ahead of their league campaign. The Imps came from behind with goals coming from Russell Berko, Trialist A and Tom Nesbitt.
He said: “It’s really important that our lads start to pitch themselves against men’s teams like this. It’s a different style, there are different things to deal with like the physicality, and the game understanding.”
Foyle was pleased with the way his side stood up to the physical challenge of Lincoln United and how that gave them a platform to go on and win the game.
“They stood up and behaved like men by matching the physicality of Lincoln United and that allowed us to get an upper-hand in the game. The lads really embraced the physical challenge of the game, and there was nobody shying away from tackles.”
He went on to discuss what next season looks like for his side and how they need to take the performance into their league campaign in the coming weeks.
“Now the challenge is to do that every week against their own age groups. If they can play with the same aggression and competitive edge, then their ability will shine through after that.”
