Bailey Adamson’s goal was not enough to send the U18s into the area final of the Youth Alliance Cup.
Adamson gave the young Imps an early lead 20 minutes into Saturday’s game at the Elite Performance Centre after collecting Denny Oliver’s pass, but Rotherham United levelled from a corner and then went on to pull ahead.
Foyle said: “We knew we were going to come up against a certain type of threat and that it would be a battle, but we didn’t do enough to impose ourselves on the game and give them enough to think about.
“After getting through a frantic first 20 mins we scored a good goal through Bailey after a great pass from Denny and I thought that would allow us to settle the game down and take control.
“But we allowed them a way back in the game and conceded from a second phase of a corner which we knew was a key moment to defend, and after that they never allowed us to find rhythm and put us under constant pressure which ultimately we failed to deal with.
“The younger players in the group can take this experience on board for the next time they find themselves in a situation like this.”
